In different parts of the world these storms have different names such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Typhoon<\/strong> &#8211; the Northwest Pacific Ocean west of the dateline<\/li>\n<li><strong>Severe Tropical Cyclone<\/strong> &#8211; the Southwest Pacific Ocean west of 160E or Southeast Indian Ocean east of 90E<\/li>\n<li><strong>Severe Cyclonic Storm <\/strong> &#8211; the North Indian Ocean<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tropical Cyclone<\/strong> &#8211; the Southwest Indian Ocean<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tropical cyclones require warm ocean temperatures, moisture, and light winds as the basic ingredients for storm development.\u00a0 If these conditions last long enough a developing tropical cyclone will become a <a title=\"criteria for a hurricane warning\" href=\"http:\/\/ialert.com\/blog\/weather-articles\/criteria-for-a-hurricane-warning\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">hurricane<\/a>, producing violent winds, incredible waves, torrential rains and floods.<\/p>\n<p>The Atlantic hurricane season begins June 1 and ends November 30.
